Message from our Grand Superintendent
Annual Report of the Grand Superintendent of The Eastern Province of the Cape of Good Hope.
1st Annual Report 25th February 2012.
Most Excellent Companions, Excellent Companions & Companions all.
It gives me great pleasure to present my 1st Annual report for 2011/2012.
As each day passes I realise the enormous responsibility that was placed on my shoulders as I knelt & took the obligation as the Grand Superintendent.
The year has passed by very quickly & I attended all the Chapter Installations with the exception of Caledonia RA 301, ill-health prevented me from carrying out my duties.
I need to thank all the District Grand Officers who assisted at these Installations, especially MEC Paul Hol who did an outstanding job as DC.
The visit to Cathcart, to attend the Frontier RA Installation, remains a highlight on my RA Masonic Calendar, even more so last year as we held a Masonic Church Service in the lovely old church on MEC Fergus Miles’s farm, aptly named Rosslin, this was followed by the legendary braai! MEC Fergus Mile’s is a tower of strength in this community.
Another exciting development is that the Principal’s at Frontier / Thistle were taking office for the first time, that is a WOW.
Our numbers continue to grow & a number of Companions that have been wandering in the wilderness have returned home & affiliated to Chapters. I was honoured to meet a very special companion, I bought a number of his CD’s & now listen to “boere musiek” when I travel. Certain Chapters are struggling the wheel is turning, we will succeed in our vision, it is all about attitude.
I officiated at the 1st meeting of St Andrew 118 SC in Grahamstown, the companions must be commended on their determination to succeed,we now have 6 Chapters in our District.
I am proud to say that our District Administration is up to date, I handed out 15 cerificates at a Caledonia 301 meeting, I also have affiliation certificates in my briefcase that MEC Les Tucker is extremely excited about!
The summonses for the Cryptic / Royal Ark Mariner have been re-designed & we are well on our way to holding our first meeting, there are dates available on our Masonic calendar, rest assured this task is priority number ONE for me!!
I attended the Grand Superintendents Conference in Durban, I left there extremely motivated & the paper that was presented has been circulated throughout our District,it contained some very thought provoking suggestions!!
A lot of the credit for our growth must go to MEC Donald Dye, as RWDGM of the craft he has made an outstanding effort to encourage Brethren to join the Royal Arch,he is adept at explaining that it is a continuation of the Craft.
The Immediate Past G/Superintendent, MEC Trevor Hoff, has been of great assistance, especially when my “out of the box” wanderings needed me to be gently guided back into line.
On my travels I am accompanied by MEC’s Donald Dye / Martin Strobos, for those of you that know Companion Martin, you will no doubt agree that he is a man of “sage” advice, there is seldom a moment of silence in the car when we travel, I have learnt so much from two very special people!
When I visit EL, I am privileged to stay at the home of MEC Alex Noble, we are still looking for the 24 Beer crate so that we can light a fire & really chew the fat, thank you Alex.
My companions it is tough out there, that responsibility that was placed on my shoulders a year ago, will continue to drive me to excel as your Grand Superintendent.
Thank you.
MEC Will Basson
Grand Superintendent.
